आर्टसियन कुओं का नामकरण फ्रांस के पूर्व प्रांत आर्टोइस के नाम पर किया गया है, जहां 1126 से कार्थुसियन भिक्षुओं द्वारा कई आर्टेसियन कुओं की खुदाई की गई थी।

कुछ विद्वानों के कथनानुसार भारतवर्ष से बौद्ध धर्म के लोप हो जाने का कारण बौद्ध विहारो में अनैतिकता का बढ़ना, मोर्य सम्राटों एवं दूसरे बौद्ध राजाओं द्वारा बौद्ध भिक्षुओं का संरक्षण लेकिन अन्य धर्मो का तिरस्कार एवं दमन करना, जिसके कारण वैदिक एवं अन्य धर्म के लोगों में असंतोष बढ़ने लगा और वह अंदर ही अंदर बौद्ध धर्म का विरोध करने लगे।

इसमें भी भिक्षुओं एवं भिक्षुणियों के निवास का प्रबंध किया गया था।

मुरलीधरन जब नौ साल के थे उन्हें कैंडी के एंथनी कॉलेज में भेजा गया था जो बेनेडिक्ट भिक्षुओं द्वारा संचालित एक निजी स्कूल था।
