अमेठी क्षेत्र में इस शक्ति संपन्न राष्ट्रीय-राजनीतिक गांधी परिवार की आमद सक्रिय रूप से सर्वप्रथम 1975 में हुई, जब तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी के छोटे पुत्र संजय गांधी ने अमेठी के अति पिछड़े गांव खेरौना में देशभर के चुनिंदा युवा कांग्रेसियों के साथ श्रमदान के माध्यम से सक्रिय राजनीति में आने का बिगुल बजाया।

वर्तमान यह नगरीय क्षेत्र है जहां के राजा किशोर सिंह लोधी की अगुवाई में अंग्रेजी हुकूमत के खिलाफ विद्रोह का बिगुल बजा दिया।

सबसे पहले आत्म अनुशासन और स्वशासन में विश्वास करने वाले नामधारी संप्रदाय ने संघर्ष का बिगुल बजाया।
