गेगरी पिनकस और जॉन रॉक ने अमरीका की नियोजित अभिभावकत्व फेडरेशन (Planned Parenthood Federation of America) की सहायता से पहली परिवार नियोजन गोलियों का 1950 में विकास किया जो 1960 में सार्वजनिक रूप से उपलब्ध हो गयीं।

इमरजेंसी के दौरान परिवार नियोजन कार्यक्रम के तहत ऐसे जिन लोगों की गलती से नसबंदी हो गई थी जिनकी कोई औलाद नहीं थी उनको मुआवज़ा देने की ९ नवंबर १९७६ को दूबे ने घोषणा की थी।
