महासमर-बंधन (खंड एक) स्पष्ट तौर पर दिखाता है कि  किस प्रकार शांतनु, सत्यवती तथा भीष्म केमहासमर-बंधनकर्म-बन्धनों से हस्तिनापुर बँध चुका है और भीष्म भी उससे मुक्त होने की स्थिति में नहीं थे ।

धनकर उस निवल धन पर लगाया जाता हैं जो मूल्‍यनिर्धारण की तारीख को होता है (निवल धन का अर्थ है ऋण को घटाकर सभी परिसंपत्तियां जो उन परिसंपत्तियों की खरीद के लिए लिया गया है।

धनकर केवल व्यक्तियों को तथा अविभाजित हिंदू परिवारों को ही अदा करना पड़ता है और यह क्रमिक रूप से वृद्धिशील होता है।

'मूल्य निर्धारण तिथि' को करदाता के पास कुल जितना कर योग्य या करार्ह शुद्ध धन हो, उसी पर धनकर का वार्षिक उद्ग्रहण किया जाता है।

अधिनियम में कुछ इस प्रकार की परिसंपत्तियों की सूची दी गई है जो धनकर से मुक्त हैं और करार्ह धन के निर्धारण में जिन्हें बिल्कुल नहीं गिना जाता।
