( अर्थ - भोग करने पर रोग का भय, उच्च कुल मे जन्म होने पर बदनामी का भय, अधिक धन होने पर राजा का भय, मौन रहने पर दैन्य का भय, बलशाली होने पर शत्रुओं का भय, रूपवान होने पर वृद्धावस्था का भय, शास्त्र मे पारङ्गत होने पर वाद-विवाद का भय, गुणी होने पर दुर्जनों का भय, अच्छा शरीर होने पर यम का भय रहता है।

: यो दुर्जनं वशयितुं तनुते मनीषाम् ॥।

इसके पाछे 'तुम्हारे वियोग में मेरा दोष नहीं, तुम ही दूसरी स्त्री में आसक्त हो गये, यह बात दूसरे ने कहकर हम दोनों में भेद उत्पन कर दिया, इस प्रकार से दुर्जन साधु पुरुषों को जलाते हैं' अब तो दुख से मेरे सब अंग जल रहे हैं, अब मैं तुम्हारे घर में दासी बनकर रहूँगी - कामुक को वश में करने का यह उपदेश।

उन्होनें दुर्जन को सदा खण्डन में कुशल, बहुत से दोषों एवं व्यर्थ की बातों से भरा हुआ कहकर उसकी तुलना ओखली से करते हुए उसे व्यंग्य रूप में नमस्कार किया है-।

उदाहरणस्वरूप नूर मुहम्मद कृत इंद्रावती के पूर्वार्ध में इंद्रावती से विवाह करने के लिए समुद्र से मोती निकाल लाने का अनुबंध 'कथानक रूढ़ि' है क्योंकि उसी को पूरा करने जाने के कारण राजकुँवर को दुर्जनराय का बंदी बनना पड़ा और बुद्धसेन तथा इंद्रावती दोनों ने प्रयत्न करके कृपा नामक राजा के द्वारा दुर्जनराय का नाश करवाकर राजकुँवर को कैद से मुक्त करवाया।

नाना प्रकार के सज्जन से सज्जन तथा दुर्जन से दुर्जन यहाँ वर्तमान हैं।

यद्यपि कायस्थ वर्ग ही विशेषतया उनके काव्यों में, व्यंग्य-बाण का लक्ष्य बना है तथापि दुर्जन, वेश्या, वैद्य, छात्र, कदर्य (कंजूस) ज्योतिषी, कुट्टनी तथा संन्यासी इत्यादि पर भी तीखे व्यंग्य देखने को मिलते हैं।

सप्त कोटि लोकेर करुण क्रन्दन, सुनेना सुनिल कर्ज़न दुर्जन;।

दुर्जन: सज्जनो भूयात सज्जन: शांतिमाप्नुयात्।

""(अर्थ - जो व्यक्ति किसी दुर्जन को अपने वश में करना चाहता है (अर्थात मैत्री करना चाहता है), वह कौतुकवश हालाहल (विष) पी रहा है, कालानल (काल अग्नि) का बार-बार चुम्बन कर रहा है, व्यालाधिप (तक्षक) को गले लगा रहा है।

दुर्जन मानव भी यदि सच्चे मार्ग पर आए तो वह सांस्कृतिक कार्य में अपना बहुत बड़ा योग दे सकता है और दुर्बलता सतत खटकती रहने पर ऐसे मानव को अपने किए हुए सत्कार्य के लिए ज्यादा घमंड भी निर्माण नहीं होगा।

तुष्यतुदुर्जनन्याय - दुर्जनों का तुष्टीकरण।

एक ओर चारुदत्त सज्जनता की सीमा है तो दूसरी ओर शकार दुर्जनता का चूडान्त प्रतीक है, कथोपकथन की दृष्टि से भी यह नाटक उच्च कोटि का है।
