सूखी धुलाई और पराध्वनिक मार्जक (अल्ट्रासोनिक क्लीनर) के विपरीत घरेलू धुलाई मशीनें, कपड़े धोने के लिए पानी और सूखे अथवा तरल डिटर्जेंट (अपमार्जक) का उपयोग करती हैं।

यह एनॉयनों से प्रतिक्रिया करके परॉक्सोएनॉयन भी उत्पन्न कर सकता है; उदा., बोराक्स से प्रतिक्रिया से सोडियम बोरेट बनता है जो कपड़े धोने के डिटर्जेंटों में विरंजक का काम करता है।

एक टमाटर का दाग किसी भी कपडे से बहुत ही आसानी से छुड़ाया जा सकता है (बशर्ते की दाग ताज़ा हो). जबकि लाइकोपेन प्लास्टिक में फ़ैल जाता है तथा दाग को गरम पानी और डिटर्जेंट से हटाना असंभव बना देता है।
