"" जो भ्राष्ट प्रयुक्त होते हैं वे साधारणतया तीन प्रकार की चुल्ली या स्कॉच तलभ्राष्ट्र (Hearth furnace), वात भ्राष्ट्र (Blast furnace) अथवा परावर्तन भ्राष्ट्र (Reverberatory furnace) होते हैं।

खुल्ली चुल्ली भट्ठी में इस्पात उत्पादन के लिए कच्चे माल के रूप में लोहा (ठोस तथा सरल), रद्दी माल (scrap) अथवा दोनों का मिश्रण उपयोग में लाया जाता है।
