महाकवि कालीदास ने अपने अमर ग्रन्थ कुमार सम्भव (प्रथम सर्ग, श्लोक ११, १४) में किन्नरों का मनोहारी वर्णन किया है जिसका हिन्दी अनुवाद है—‘जहाँ अपने नितम्बों और स्तनों के दुर्वह भार से पीड़त किन्नरियाँ अपनी स्वाभाविक मन्दगति को नहीं त्यागतीं यद्यपि मार्ग, जिस पर शिलाकार हिम जम गया है, उनकी अंगुलियों व एड़ियों को कष्ट दे रहा है।
