सन्दर्भ विधवा पुनर्विवाह अधिनियम, 1856 में ब्रिटिश भारत में ब्राह्मण, राजपूतों, बनिया और कायस्थ जैसे कुछ अन्य जातियों के बीच मुख्य रूप से विधवापन अभ्यास पर रोक लगाने हेतु पारित किया गया था| यह कानून बच्चे और विधवाओं के लिए एक राहत के रूप में तैयार किया गया था जिसके पति की समय से पहले मृत्यु हो गई हो|।
