साहित्य अधिकतर एदो की बोली में ही लिखा जाने लगा।

आरंभ में ओसाका सांस्कृतिक केंद्र था परंतु 18 वीं शताब्दी के अंतिम भाग से 'एदो' (आजकल का तोक्यो) सांस्कृतिक केंद्र बना।
