संभवतः सबसे पुरानी अस्तित्ववान युद्ध पद्धतियों में से एक,कलरीपायट्टु को अंग्रेजी में (mother of all martial arts) कहकर सम्मान दिया जाता है, जिसका अर्थ है सभी युद्ध कलाएँ की माता या माँ।
