बल्ले को पारम्परिक रूप से विलो लकड़ी से बनाया जाता है, विशेष रूप से एक किस्म की सफ़ेद विलो का उपयोग इसे बनाने में किया जाता है, जिसे क्रिकेट के बल्ले की विलो कहा जाता है (सेलिक्स अल्बा, किस्म कैरुलिया), इसे कच्चे (बिना उबले) अलसी की तेल के साथ उपचारित किया जाता है।

प्राकृतिक सुघट्यकारियों में कपूर और रेंड़ी, अलसी, सोयाबीन आदि के उपचारित तेल हैं।

जलवायु तथा प्राकृतिक दशा की विभिन्नता के कारण इस छोटे से देश में यूरोप में पैदा होनेवाली सारी चीजें पर्याप्त मात्रा में पैदा होती हैं, अर्थात् राई से लेकर चावल तक, सेब से लेकर नारंगी तक तथा अलसी से लेकर कपास तक।

आयुर्वेद में अलसी को मंदगंधयुक्त, मधुर, बलकारक, किंचित कफवात-कारक, पित्तनाशक, स्निग्ध, पचने में भारी, गरम, पौष्टिक, कामोद्दीपक, पीठ के दर्द ओर सूजन को मिटानेवाली कहा गया है।

रबी (वसंतकालीन)- गेहूँ, जौ, चना, खेसारी, मटर, मसूर, अरहर, अलसी, सरसों आदि फसलें रबी के अन्तर्गत आती है।

बीजों को बिना गर्म किए हुए निकाला हुआ अलसी का तेल धूप और हवा में शोधकर प्रयोग किया जाए तो उसमें रंग मैले नहीं दीखते और टिकते भी ज्यादा हैं।

भारत में प्रधानतया अलसी और तुंग तेल व्यवहार में आते हैं।

ओमेगा 3 फैटी एसिड के पौधे-आधारित या शाकाहारी स्रोतों में सोया, अखरोट, कुम्हड़े के बीज, कैनोला तेल (रेपसीड), किवी फल और विशेषकर हेम्पसीड, चिया सीड, अलसी, इचियम बीज और लोनिया या कुलफा शामिल हैं।

अलसी में प्रचुर ओमेगा फ़ेटी एसिड्स होते हैं जो कब्ज निवारण में महती भूमिका निभाते हैं।
